Hi guys, I hope everyone is enjoying their day off of work. I wanted to put a few things out there real fast; First, if you've placed an order through the site last 2 weeks I have been dealing with some shipping woes. About a year ago I bought a label printer to save time and money. It worked great until it didn't and neither USPS or FedEx could scan the labels. The company(who I won't mention) took great care of me and sent a new printer. Again, it was fine until recently the thing started printing the labels wrong again. It's impossible to tell because they look normal, but they won't scan through their system. Instead of them notifying me, the packages just sat at the terminals until I called to see what the deal was. Both USPS and FedEx printed new labels(also new tracking #'s) and they are now on their way to you. I apologize for the issue, like I said it's not the first time it's happened with this machine. Needless to say I will be purchasing a different printer this week.
I have been designing a new line of smoothers and I have had a laundry list of criteria that I wanted to hit to make sure that it's the best tool I have made to date. I am finishing up the prototypes(in my spare time, so unless I get free of work and making other planes it may be a week or so) and it is looking great. I want this tool to be comfortable in any hands, regardless of the project size. I want it to have some aesthetic ties to traditional infill planes, yet still be something that nobody has really seen before(a hard thing to accomplish in a trade that spans 300+ years). I hope to offer it with an O1 Steel sole or hardened bronze, though the price will be relatively the same. Just like my other smoothers, I will offer this one in 50, 55, and 60 degree bed angles. The few people that have seen it or heard about it have asked what will happen to my other style of smoother; As much as I love my old style one, I don't really see the need for having too many choices. It will only lead to confusion from a consumer standpoint and from the design/maker point, I really don't want to have multiple patterns, sizes, and materials for a plane that is going to do the same tasks. I still have orders coming in for the "old" style smoothers and I have a few kits ready as well. I don't think that I will offer a discount to get them out the door, they seem to move themselves quite well. If you're thinking of buying a smoother from me and you're interested in seeing the new design, check back on my blog and I will put up a few sneak peek shots of it. Pre-orders for the plane will start as soon as I am ready for production, I will post that as well.
That's about it for now. I will get to some questions again as soon as I'm able/ Thanks!
